As winter rolled around, covering the landscape with a thick blanket of snow, the Kenway family enjoyed all the fun aspects that came with the new season change. Mary loved watching her boys playing with their father, building snowmen, having snowball fights, and making snow angels. No doubt this definitely was Williams and George’s favourite season.
George loved playing with his big brother in the snow, that he’d often beg him to go play outside. As much as William loved the outdoors, it got a bit much when he was doing it all the time. Often encouraged by his parents to, “go play with your brother”. With all George’s nagging, he relented. Although sometimes William did find him funny, mostly he was annoying. After all, that’s what siblings are for.
It wasn’t often Mary got involved in the snow activities, but when she did, she always seemed to target Edward with her snowballs, much to the boy’s humour. Secretly she knew it would make the boys laugh. But overall, this was the best time of season for the family to bond over these activities, as the work slows down.
Very soon it was George’s birthday, and as usual in the Kenway house, they threw a birthday party and invited everyone they knew to the occasion. Now that George was older, William didn’t find him as annoying as before, and could finally interact and play with him much better.
Even though the boys were getting bigger, Mary still saw her boys as her babies. And she always took the chance to tuck them in at night, while she still could. Because she knew one day, they’d get too big for their mommy to kiss them goodnight. But she knew she’d do it all over again when one day she gets grandkids.
When Winterfest rolled around, they had a nice little gathering at their house. With the Goth and Beauchamp families coming to visit, to have some of Mary’s famous clam chowder, and of course her delicious Winterfest roast ham. Not a very big party, but definitely a cozy one. Sadly the Kenway family couldn’t get a tree in the house to celebrate, but they knew that being with their family and friends was the real spirit of Winterfest.
