How to Convert Cribs and Beds

The Sims 4 Infants update is now live, and players finally get to explore this new life stage. In The Sims 4, original babies are no longer categorized as babies, they are now considered newborns, and eventually, they will age up into infants before becoming toddlers.

Sims grow up fast, and sometimes parents won’t want to spend money on a toddler bed right after purchasing a brand new crib for their infant, but there’s a solution for this issue. Cribs can actually be converted into beds that Sims can keep using once they reach their next life stage. This guide will explain exactly how to do that in The Sims 4.

How To Convert Cribs and Beds

purchasing a crib for an infant

Being an infant is still a rather short life stage for a Sim; it happens when a Sim is between being a newborn and a toddler. Sometimes Sims will be short on money; whether they have to support a large family, have lost their job, or the player is simply trying a rags-to-riches challenge, it can happen. When counting one’s Simoleons, gamers most likely won’t want to spend money on an expensive toddler bed a few days after purchasing a brand-new crib – that’s when crib conversion comes in.

To convert a crib into a toddler bed, players must select the crib, then Upgrade, and finally select the “convert to toddler bed” option. The Sim doing the upgrade must have Handiness Skill Level 2, and it costs a total of 50 Simoleons.

If a mobile has been installed onto the crib, it will disappear once it’s converted into a toddler bed. Later, if the player reverts the bed into a crib, the mobile will still be gone. This is important to consider since it costs 100 Simoleons to attach a baby mobile.

When the player purchases a crib in Build-and-Buy mode, most will have a note saying, “this crib can be converted into a toddler bed.” Cribs that don’t have this note don’t have this feature activated, and it won’t appear as an option.

It is possible to revert this change at any point in the game by selecting the Upgrade option once again; it requires the same level of Handiness Skill and costs the same amount of money. This is useful when players want to keep cribs for younger siblings.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
