How to Get Upgrade Parts

Sims can build and upgrade equipment and appliances in The Sims 4. They need a high Handiness skill if they want to construct more complex objects. Handiness affects what kinds of repairs and upgrades Sims can do without hurting themselves or breaking their items.

Many objects in The Sims 4 can be upgraded with helpful features or more durability. However, even if a Sim has the technique to upgrade something, they can only do something if they have the correct Upgrade parts. Upgrade parts are the key ingredients to working on specific items, so players must collect them if they want a DIY Sim.

Sims can get Upgrade Parts in a couple of ways. The quickest way is to order Upgrade Parts from a computer. Sims can use any public computer or buy a home computer or laptop in Build/Buy mode. Follow the steps below to buy Upgrade Parts.

  • Click on a computer and find the “Order…” catalog
  • Select “More Choices” until “Purchase Upgrade Parts…” and click it
  • Choose the desired Upgrade Parts from the purchase list.

Buying Upgrade Parts constantly gets expensive. Players who want a cheaper method can pick them up while repairing broken objects. Occasionally, Sims will have things like toilets, showers, TVs, radios, kitchen appliances, and more break on them. They can attempt to repair broken items themselves if their Handiness skill is high enough.

A pile of trash appears whenever an item is repaired, and Sims can search through it for various Upgrade Parts. The type of Upgrade Parts they will pick up depends on what object they fixed.

Sims can upgrade particular objects as they get more experienced in Handiness. Items that can be upgraded include fridges, toilets, fire alarms, and more. Sims can make them self-cleaning, unbreakable, or fireproof, depending on what item they are working on.

The available upgrades can be viewed by clicking on an item. It will be clickable if a Sims Handiness skill is high enough for them to complete the Upgrade and have all the needed Upgrade Parts.

Handiness skill can be practiced by reading Skill books, repairing objects, building sculptures, and woodworking. Sims can buy Skill books from any bookshelf, but it takes longer than other methods. If Sims are more hands-on with learning Handiness, they will reach the maximum level quickly.

The Sims 4 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
