How To Start The Law Career

To enroll your Sims in the Law Career, you first need to have the Discover University pack. With the pack installed, starting your law career is just as easy as starting any other career. Simply open your Sim’s phone in the bottom left corner of your screen, and select the ‘find a job’ option to start your Sim on the path to gavel-swinging justice.

If you want to jump-start your Sim’s entrance into the Law Career, you can attend Britechester University and get your degree in Language and Literature or History.

Having a degree related to your Sim’s intended field can
affect their salary, bonuses, and at what level
they enter the career.

The Law Career is also a great choice for any Simmer who doesn’t want to fuss with their Sims leaving their home lots. The Law Career can be done entirely from the comfort of your Sim’s home so long as they have access to a computer and research computer.

If you know what Lot Traits to utilize, your Sim may even be more successful as a stay-at-home lawyer, but more on that later.

Law Career Requirements

Like all careers in The Sims 4, the Law Career gives your Sims daily tasks to complete to get promoted and improve their earning potential.

For most tasks in your career, you will need to have access to a computer or research computer. Both types of computers are pricey, so if your Sim is saving their Simoleons, you can send them to Laurel Library in Britechester.

Laurel Library has both a research and regular computer on the lot, making it the most efficient place to complete Law Career tasks.

If you’re aiming to have your Sim
work from home
in the long term, it’s worth dropping the
12,500 Simoleons
necessary to buy a
research computer
for home use.

Law Career Levels

Like all careers, the Law Career has ten career levels to work through. Your Sim will start the career at the basic first level unless they have graduated from Britechester with a degree in Language and Literature or History.

Graduating with a History degree jump-starts your Sim’s entrance into the Judge career branch, while having your degree in Language and Literature allows your Sim to jump right into the Private Attorney branch.

If you don’t have a degree from Britechester, your Sim will only have access to the basic Law Career and won’t be able to choose a specialty until they reach level seven.

If you start the Law Career from level one – and don’t have a degree – you will have to take and pass the Lawyer’s Exam at career level 4.

At level eight, you will be able to choose a career branch for your Sim. The final three levels of the Law Career are unique for each career branch.

If you don’t want to wait for your Sim to get promoted, or if you don’t want to bother with sending your Sim through college, you can use the following cheat to promote your Sim:

Judge Career Branch

The Judge career branch becomes available to your sim upon being promoted to career level eight.

Besides the base Research and Debate Skill leveling requirement, you will also need to level your Logic Skill if you want to move up the ranks in the Judge career branch. No one wants a judge who can’t think critically about their cases.

You can
level your Logic Skill
by playing chess, reading skill books, attending a skill class, researching plants, or doing other analytical tasks.

Starting the Judge or Private Attorney career after
graduating from Britechester
with an applicable degree will
increase your hourly wages and your overall earning potential
.

Distinguished degrees
give your Sims even more of a head start than regular degrees.

Private Attorney Career Branch

The Private Attorney career branch becomes available to your Sim upon being promoted to career level eight. Similar to the Judge branch, your Sim will need to level more than just the Research and Debate Skill if they want to move up the ranks as a Private Attorney.

The second skill requirement for the Private Attorney Branch is the Charisma Skill.

You can level your charisma by choosing
social options marked with the sunglasses icon
, practicing comedy or speeches, attending a skill class, reading skill books, and other confidence-boosting tasks. A good attorney is a personable attorney.

Tips For Leveling The Law Career Faster

The Sims 4: A Sim gets ready to do some research on her computer

As briefly touched upon earlier, each branch of the Law Career requires you to level more than just your Sim’s Research and Debate Skill.

For
Private Attorneys
, the
Charisma
Skill
is the most important, while for
Judges
, you’ll want to focus on leveling your
Logic Skill
.

A few great ways to help your Sims level up are to synergize their lifestyles, hobbies, and traits with their career requirements.

All Sims have three inherited or default traits chosen for them in Create A Sim (CAS). You can choose these traits intentionally or leave them up to fate.

The two best CAS traits to give your Sims to help them level up in the Law Career more quickly are the Genius trait and the Self-Assured trait.

Sims with the Genius trait have a chance to randomly achieve the Focused moodlet throughout the day. The best moodlet to have when leveling your Research and Debate Skill and your Logic Skill is the Focused moodlet. This makes the Genius Trait and being Focused the best way for your Sims to level faster in the Judge Career Branch.

Similarly, the best moodlet to have to level up your Charisma Skill more quickly is the Confident moodlet. Sims with the Self-Assured trait become Confident and Very Confident more often.

You can also use your environment to give your Sims positive moodlets. Listening to Focus music can give your Sim some extra Focus, while giving your Sim a Pep-Talk in a mirror or brushing their teeth can leave them feeling more confident.

You can also use
cheats to change your Sims’ moodlets
. On
PC, try shift-clicking
your Sims while you have
‘Testingcheats true’
in your cheat bar. You can use the cheat radial to change your Sim’s moods and their needs.

Another great way to improve your Sim’s skill leveling abilities is to take advantage of Lot Traits. Lot Traits can be assigned to your Sims’ lots by entering the build menu and selecting the lot traits tab in the top left corner of the screen. From here, you can assign up to three traits to your lot.

The best Lot Trait for leveling your Charisma Skill is the Convival trait. Convival boosts the speed at which your Sims level Charisma skills by fifty percent. Similarly, the Lot Trait, Science Lair increases the speed at which your Sims level their Logic skill by fifty percent.

Finally, the Discover University pack synergizes well with the Snowy Escape pack, specifically when utilizing the new Lifestyle feature introduced in Snowy Escape.

Lifestyles are unlockable boosts that your Sims can achieve after completing certain lifestyle habits. These are the best Lifestyles to give your Sims in the Law Career.
