Simmers rejoice! The development team at Electronic Arts have brought us a new expansion pack; The Sims 4 For Rent. In this expansion pack players will now be able to build residential rentals that enable creativity with multi-family dwellings. The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack is available to buy now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC for £34.99. EA has also added an early purchase incentive. You can bring the night market flavour home with a bonus grill cart, a street umbrella and a fruit basket if you order the For Rent Expansion Pack between November 2nd and January 18th.
Are you ready to own a property empire?
Since it was announced, I’ve been incredibly excited to play The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack and I know I’m not alone. This expansion pack has been highly anticipated by the Sims community. The only question we have now is “Why was this not added sooner?”. Are you an eager Sims player? Let me know in the comments if you are enjoying the expansion pack.
Gameplay
As with every expansion pack, the game’s mechanics are the same. But there are still plenty of additions to speak about. The biggest change this expansion pack has brought is the experience of being a property owner. With that comes the opportunity to build and create a variety of dwellings. This includes townhouses, duplexes, and much more. How demanding being a property owner will be depends on how many properties you decide to have. Just as in real life, the more properties, the more responsibility the owner has. These responsibilities include visiting homes to complete inspections as well as fixing any broken objects.
Whilst this seems relatively easy, there are of course multiple spanners that are thrown into the mix. For example, how will you deal with insect infestations or mould? If you decide to shirk your responsibilities as a property owner, there are deadly consequences, including death. However, if you aren’t that bad, the tenants will stage a little revolt, which is, of course, their right. To ensure that there are no deaths or revolts, you will have to be the very best property owner you can be. Make listening to your tenants and fixing objects on time your priority and you’ll have happy tenants. Happy tenants happy life.
However, is not just other sims’ needs that are a priority, of course, you matter too. With the expansion pack comes four new aspirations that your Sim will need to pursue and master. These vary in variety and do not purely focus on being a good landlord. Instead, there are aspirations focussed on things such as snooping around, learning secrets, or even being the fount of Tomarani knowledge. The five new traits can also help to complete your aspirations, with the “Child of the Village” trait being a pack exclusive.
With this new expansion pack, there are plenty of new create-a-sim and build-mode items to enjoy. One of the most enjoyable things for me whilst playing The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack is the added extras like mould. You can create your lots to have problems from the off, and you can purposely make them run down. Now who wouldn’t love the option to do that?
Of course, if you do not wish to be a property owner, you can become a tenant! And experience everything Tomarang has to offer. This option will certainly be less stress-inducing, but it does not offer the same level of fun as being a property owner.
Graphics & Audio
Most people know what to expect when playing The Sims, and this expansion pack is no different. The graphics as always, are top-notch. There isn’t anything new to discuss when it comes to the graphics. However, the new items that EA have introduced, such as the mould, look really good.
If you have read my Sims 4: Horse Ranch Expansion Pack article you will know I mostly ignore audio as when I am playing, I often do not have any sound on. That being said whenever I play a new expansion pack, I will turn my speakers up to listen out for anything new. I was very glad I did as otherwise I would have missed the sounds of my tenants revolting. This already looks funny but with the added audio is even funnier. And of course, it’s even funnier still as we have no idea what has been said! I wonder if DuoLingo has a Simmish course…
Longevity
The Sims 4 came out in 2014 and the Sims team are constantly improving and adding to the game. Including the For Rent expansion pack, there are now 15 expansion packs, and 12 game packs, alongside several other stuff packs and kits. The Sims is a game with endless possibilities, with endless amounts of fun to be had.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, with a pack such as this, there is not a lot to complain about. This pack is something the community has been asking for and lovers of The Sims will enjoy this pack. Although I have never agreed with spending £35 for an expansion pack, I will say that this is one of the first expansion packs that has changed my stance. This pack is well worth the money.
With that in mind, I will am awarding the Sims 4: For Rent expansion pack the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
