Don your best dress or suit and throw the best party in town with the new Stuff Pack, The Sims 4: Luxury Party. This is the new addon for the game and it is the first stuff pack ever released for The Sims 4. This pack has everything you need in order to throw the best parties! It includes a great variety of new hairstyles, makeup, stylish outfits, and fashionable jewellery, as well as the necessary equipment to make throwing your party more fun and more rewarding. That’s pretty much all this pack is about.
This stuff pack contains fewer items and outfits than the previous versions of stuff packs in the Sims series. There is only about a few pieces of furniture, including a new bar, table and chairs, as well as some lighting and decorative items. However, there are three new items that provide new gameplay activity: two types of round banquet tables that your Sims can serve delicious party type food for their guests, and with that, you can place a fountain on top of the buffet tables.
Gameplay Items:
- The ‘Fountain of Mirth’ fountain – A fondue fountain that can hold drinks or food that can be served.
- The Banquet Table – A table to serve food for the guests to eat.
- The Luminous Bar Counter – A backlit bar counter to serve and make party drinks.
Luxury Party Fountain
By the far, the best item in this pack is the fountain table piece, called the Fountain of Mirth. It is the single most important gameplay item in this Stuff Pack, and this fountain can be placed on either of the two optional buffet tables. Selecting the fountain will give you a number of options for filling the fountain with different types of drinks and foods. The food options include chocolate, cheese, or caramel, as well as a few different drink options like fruit punch or sparkling apple juice. The variety of options depends on two base game skills, mixology and cooking; with mixology affecting the drink options, and cooking affecting the food options. At level 5 in either of the skills, you will get the option to ‘Improve’ the food or drink quality in the fountain, which can give your Sim an improved sense of ‘Happiness’. And if your Sim is feeling a little mischievous, they can corrupt the contents of the fountain, making Sims feel ‘Uncomfortable’ after drinking from it.
Luxury Party Buffet Table
With the buffet table comes five different types of foods that can be purchased and served from the buffet tables, but you are welcome to make your own food and place it in any of the six slots (including the centrepiece where the Fountain of Mirth goes). When purchasing food from the buffet table, it is not based on your Sim’s cooking level, this means that it will come out ‘good quality’, which is the highest you can get. A Sim with a high level in the Gourmet cooking skill can take the quality further by garnishing the dishes to improve them to Excellent quality, if you so wish. What’s nice about this table, is that you can easily feed a large number of Sims, which can be done very easily. This table will work very nicely when throwing a wedding event, which is pretty much how real weddings are!
A New Look in ‘Luxury Party’
There are fewer outfits than you might expect from a stuff pack, but I must say that I really like the ones they’ve included here: they all follow the ‘luxury party’ theme with plenty of glitter and include a few revealing outfits for the female Sims. All the CAS items are ideal for Sims who want to stand out.
- Female CAS – The female sims get five sparkly full-body dresses, two pants and two tops, with beautiful jewellery and a nice set of glamourous makeup to match, as well as a very nice collection of shoes that are very useable to match with other outfits. To round it all, there are four fancy hairdos to complete the luxury party look.
- Male CAS – For The male sims, there are two over-the-top sparkly full-body suits and two tops, with shoes to match. There are three new hairs, which are actually quite a nice selection, as you can definitely see the useability of them for other sims for any occasion.
All of these items are geared toward teens and older Sims, which does make sense given that children are not likely to attend these kinds of events. Even so, it’s always a little disappointing when there aren’t any new items for younger life stages.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- The new items are a great addition to any party and go well with specific events like Wedding parties, Dinner parties and Charity Benefit parties. Especially if you want that elegant theme for your social event.
- The male hairs are great and go very well with any other outfit, not just for parties (As we all know the male fashion items always fall short).
- By far the best feature is the fondue fountain (also the buffet table) as it’s unique to the sims and definitely gives my parties the edge, making it more fun to throw parties.
- The CAS items are really nice for a first stuff pack, but with the female shoes and makeup, the usability is great as they go well with any other outfit ensemble.
- It’s always nice for my Sims to have a wider selection of formal wear.
Cons
- With this being a party themed pack, it’s a pity that it didn’t come with a new Social Event to throw a luxury party. Given that it is a party themed pack.
- Sadly the amount of items does feel a little lacking.
- Most of the outfits don’t feel like they would get used very much, as they are a bit over the top (Celebrity Sims benefit from these items very nicely though).
- It would have been nice if they added another form of entertainment to enhance that party experience, or elaborated on existing entertainment, like maybe hiring a dancer or even a magician.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this is a very nice little pack that can add some glitz and glam to your Sims’ events. While the scope of this pack is smaller than what we’re used to with previous sims versions of stuff packs, it does include some fun new gameplay items, as well as a very specific focus.
There’s not much else to say about it in terms of gameplay, but it is not necessarily a bad thing. I’m always a happy simmer if every Stuff Pack contains at least a couple of items that affect actual gameplay in nostalgic or novel ways. This pack does leave me with mixed reviews, but I do love it for what it is. It is entirely up to you though whether Luxury Party Stuff is for you.
